SCHENECTADY, NY – The Siena Men's Tennis team opened up their 2021-22 season in grand style on Friday afternoon, as they took part in the first day of the Siena Invite at Central Park in Schenectady.
Eight different Saints snagged at least one win in singles play over the course of the day. Both Somo Yokoyama and Mathais Tremblay each won two matches, as Yokoyama advanced with 8-0 and 8-7 (5) wins. Tremblay would only drop one point, winning 8-0 and 8-1. Also grabbing wins in singles were
Marvin Oberli (8-7 (1)),
Matt Nardone (8-5),
Andrea Moro (8-2),
Darek Kuczynski (8-6),
Agustin Suarez (8-1), and
Tomas del Olmo (8-0). Del Olmo's victory would come after a loss in his initial matchup.
In doubles,
Maxwell Acri and
Jose Pablo Davila would score a win in Flight C, while Nardone and Moro paired up for a 6-3 win after getting moved on in the first round.
The Saints return to action tomorrow for Day 2 of the Siena Invite, with first serve at Central Park in Schenectady getting things started at 9 a.m.
