NEW BRITAIN, CT – Siena Cross Country impressed in its final regular season action before hosting the 2022 MAAC Championship next weekend. The Saints saw their women finish first and men take third at the CCSU Mini Meet hosted by Central Connecticut State at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Connecticut Friday afternoon.
The team victory by the women was highlighted by fifth year Olivia Lomascolo winning her second individual title of the season, running a school record time of 9:38 in the women's 3k. Freshman Stephanie Queiroz (10:16) took ninth, while sophomore Claire Gardner (10:19) rounded out the individual top-ten in tenth. Sophomore Julia Caputo (10:30) took 15th individually in the women's varsity race, while sophomore Keira Flaherty (10:38) finished 20th.
The Saints scored 54 points as a team for the women to edge out UConn by two points, while the men tallied 99 points to land behind the Celeron Track Club and host Central Connecticut State.
The men's 5k also featured a school record broken, with junior Killian McNamee finishing fourth with a time of 14:55. Freshman Jayson Chichelli placed 13th at 15:15, while sophomore Jackson Cayward (15:20), freshman Tyler Greene (15:31), and senior Matthew Laframboise (15:37) finished 19th, 28th, and 25th, respectively, to round out the individual top-five.
Siena also featured groups competing in the two sub-varsity races, with junior Ryan Shanahan winning the men's sub-varsity 5k with a time of 15:30. Freshman Kate DeForest took fourth to lead the women's sub-varsity 3k for the Saints with a mark of 11:00.
Siena's regular season will culminate next weekend, when the Saints play host to the 2022 MAAC Cross Country Championships at The Crossings of Colonie.
