The Siena Men's Tennis team made some noise on Friday afternoon, as the Green and Gold made their mark on Day 1 of the ITA Regional held at Army West Point. The Saints advance three in singles play and two pairings in doubles play to Saturday's next rounds.
The day began with junior
Dante Russo and freshman
Edward Vo squaring off in doubles against the U.S. Military Academy's Daniel Choi and Jack Hanna. The Siena duo took an 8-3 victory, moving on to tomorrow's action against Marist's Dylan Friedman and Christian Mills.
The day then moved to singles play, with four Saints all in the mix.
Agustin Suarez took a 6-1, 6-4 win over Quinnipiac's Kemal Karagozoglu, while
Jose Pablo Davila took a win over Holy Cross' Alessandro Bizzarri in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 (2).
Russo drew a first-round bye in singles, moving onto tomorrow to face Boston College's JJ Bianchi. The doubles pairing of Suarez and
Matt Nardone were also put into their drawing with a first round bye, automatically advancing to day two against Boston College's Anesh Jayasundera and Shreekar Eedara.
Tomas del Olmo fell in his singles match to Marist's Christian Mills by a final of 6-3, 6-2. Vo did the same, falling in three to Marist's Tomas Gomez 4-6, 7-6 (2), 4-6.
The Saints winners from today return to the court tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 8 as they see Day 2 of the ITA Regionals in West Point.
