The Siena Men's Tennis team continues their strong play at the ITA Regionals in West Point, as the Green and Gold will advance three singles players and one doubles pairing to the third day of the tournament for the first time in program history.
Junior
Dante Russo and freshman
Edward Vo set the tone early, winning their doubles match and advancing to the Round of 16 by defeating Marist's Dylan Friedman and Christian Mills by an 8-3 final. The duo moves on to face Columbia University's Henry Ruger and Sachin Palta Sunday morning.
In singles play,
Agustin Suarez won in a three-set thriller in a breaker – 7-6 (6), 6-7 (1), 7-6 (5) in one of the top matches of the day. Suarez moves onto the round of 32 Sunday against A.J. Woodman from the U.S. Military Academy.
Jose Pablo Davila also won his match, defeating Miles Groom from Dartmouth by a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2 score. He will face Binghamton's Dan Pergel Sunday.
Russo wrapped up the success in singles play on the day, finishing with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 three-set win over Boston College's JJ Bianchi. That sets up Russo to face Columbia's Henry Ruger – one of the same opponents he will see in doubles play.
Suarez and
Matt Nardone lost their doubles match 8-6 to Boston College's Anesh Jayasundera and Shreekar Eedara.
Siena returns tomorrow for Day 3 of the ITA Regional at West Point. Doubles matches begin at 10:15 a.m.
