The Siena Men's Tennis team once again made moves at the ITA Regional on Sunday afternoon, as the Green and Gold saw two players move on to Monday's Round of 16 action. Juniors
Agustin Suarez and
Jose Pablo Davila each won three singles matches since Friday to advance.
"I am really happy to see how well the guys played this weekend," said head coach
Jeff Osborn. "Their hard work is paying off. Many great matches were played against some top caliber opponents."
Suarez took a solid victory by a 7-5, 7-5 final over the US Military Academy's AJ Woodman. That win pushed Suarez into the Round of 16 on Monday. Davila had similar success, taking a one-sided 6-3, 6-1 win over Dan Pergel from Binghamton. Both Suarez and Davila will face opponents from Harvard on Monday. Suarez will face Alan Yim, while Davila will face Valdemar Pape.
Junior
Dante Russo fell in his match to Columbia's Henry Ruger. Russo took a 6-4 win in the first set before falling in the next two sets 7-5 and 6-3 to be eliminated. Lastly, the doubles team of Russo and
Edward Vo also fell short, falling 8-2 in doubles play by Colunbia's Henry Ruger – Russo's singles opponent – and Sachin Palta.
Siena returns tomorrow for the fourth and final day of the ITA Regional at West Point. Both singles matches for the Saints will commence at 10 a.m. If the Saints win, they will clinch a spot in the ITA Super Regionals for the first time in program history.
