LOUDONVILLE, NY – Looking to make some noise this season, the Siena Saints men's lacrosse program kicks off their 2022 season on Saturday morning as they head to Brookville to take on the LIU Sharks at 11 a.m.
Siena gets their year started on the road for the first time in five years, as the Saints have opened at home each of the last four years. In opening games all-time, the Saints hold a record of 18-43. Their last win on opening day came in 2020, with a 14-12 win over LIU.
The Saints look to bounce back after a winless 2021 season in which the Green and Gold lost seven of their eight games by two goals or less. Fifth-year
Jack Kiernan stood out with a team-high 34 points last season, scoring 23 goals and 11 assists. Siena's next returning leading scorer is senior
George Rusnak, while the Green and Gold also return netminder
Christopher Yanchoris, who ranked near the top of the MAAC last season in total saves.
A brand new program in 2020, LIU opened their program history against the Saints back on Feb. 8, 2020. Siena would get the 14-12 victory, bringing the series to a 1-0 advantage for the Saints. The Sharks improved from a 1-6 record in 2020 to a 6-5 record last year in the NEC.
In that game, Siena's returning leading scorer
Jack Kiernan registered five points to headline a balanced attack for Siena which featured nine different goal scorers.
Colin Gleason,
Brendan Lantieri,
Dylan Pantalone, and
Maurice Tessier scored two goals apiece for Siena who held a 49-33 advantage in shots.
Anthony Tebbano made 12 saves in goal to quarterback a Saints' defense which forced 23 turnovers.
