Box Score After an early deficit, the Siena Saints struggled in their opening game of the 2022 season as they fell to the LIU Sharks by a final score of 14-7.
LIU's Blake Behlan scored four goals and added an assist for a game-high five points, while three others had two goals apiece. The Sharks led the ground ball battle 21-19, and caused eight turnovers.
The Saints saw senior
Christian Watts score three goals in the effort, with
George Rusnak adding a pair of goals as well. Senior
Seth Van Schepen filled the stat sheet with a goal and an assist.
Brian Mack led the team in ground balls with five.
The Sharks broke the ice in the first quarter after both sides played scoreless for over half the first quarter. From there, the Sharks scored five more goals to open up a 6-0 lead. Van Schepen got the Saints on the board with 21 seconds left in the second quarter.
In the second half, LIU continued to build on their lead that included five unanswered goals into the fourth quarter. The Green and Gold scored three of the last four goals, as the Sharks shut the door on the victory.
The Saints return to action next Saturday, Feb. 19 at 12 p.m. when they play host to Providence at Hickey Field.
