BUFFALO, NY – After years of struggling to maintain place within the MAAC, Siena Swimming & Diving finished off a competitive week at the 2022 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships with a sixth-place finish, recording its highest finish in the conference tournament since 2016. The Saints scored 299.5 points at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York.
Niagara took home the team title on the women's side, while Rider captured the men's MAAC Championship.
The final day of action featured five swimmers advancing to MAAC final heats, beginning with senior
Isabel Harms in the 200 back. The Maine native moved to second on the all-time top-ten list with a fourth-place finish of 2:04.89 in the preliminary round, later to take fifth in the finals. Junior
Elisabeth Balicanta placed 19
th in the preliminary round with a time of 2:12.02 to enter the All-Time Top-10 List in the event.
Freshman
Maddie Buck earned her third trip to a MAAC final to close out a fantastic rookie performance with a tenth place finish in the 100 free with a time of 53.02 for sixth all-time in the prelims, later to finish 16
th with 53.35 in the finals. Junior
Rory Kalac swam a time of 53.24 for 14
th and later finished 12
th in the finals with a time of 52.71 for fifth all-time.
Sophomore
Audrey Shultz placed 15
th in the 200 breast with a mark of 2:28.28 and moved into the top-10 in the finals with a 15
th place finish of 2:27.89. Junior
Jessica Shine's time of 2:08.82 placed her tenth in the 200 fly prelims, while her mark of 2:06.82 allowed her to move to ninth in the final round.
The meet ended with the 400 free relay group of Kalac, freshman
Kylie Carter, freshman
Shaylea Triller, and Buck placing seventh with a time of 3:32.96.
Siena concludes the 2021-22 season with one school record broken and over half of its current roster holding at least one entry on the All-Time Top-Ten Performers List.
