Tom Josten capped a decisive seven-run third inning with a grand slam to propel UCF past Siena Baseball 16-2 in Orlando. The Knights added a trio of three-run innings to clinch the season-opening series.
Siena (0-2) scored its first run – and took its first lead – of the young season right off the bat on a first inning RBI single by newcomer Vincent Dinicola. But UCF (2-0) responded with three runs in the home half of the opening frame to secure a lead they would not relinquish. The Knights then proceeded to put it away with their seven-run third.
The Saints tacked on their final run in the fifth, on an RBI double off the bat of
Brett Young. Freshman
Billy Rozakis was Siena's top performer on the mound, tossing a pair of scoreless innings with one hit, a pair of walks, and three strikeouts in his collegiate debut.
The Saints will look to salvage their season-opening series Sunday at 1 p.m.
