ORLANDO, FL – Siena Baseball (0-3) dropped the final game of its season-opening weekend series Sunday afternoon. The Saints fell, 18-0, to the University of Central Florida (3-0) at John Euliano Park in Orlando, Florida.
The Knights completed the weekend sweep over the Saints by scoring a run in all but one frame, including four in the first inning and six in the second. UCF out-hit Siena, 13-5, and stranded eight Saints runners on-base.
Siena left runners on the base paths in all but two innings, including a pair at first and second in the sixth and the ninth. Five different Siena players garnered a hit, including senior
Ryan McGee, redshirt-junior
Brett Young, sophomore
Vincent DiNicola, junior
Donovan Montgomery, and freshman
Gunnar Meland.
UCF's Hunter Patterson (1-0) earned the shutout win on the mound with nine strikeouts over five innings, while four other Knights pitchers made relief appearances. Siena's
Brooks Knapek (0-1) picked up the loss with eight runs (seven earned) surrendered over one inning, with one strikeout and four walks issued. Eight other Siena pitchers took the mound throughout the game.
Siena will again travel south in its return to play next week, with a three-game weekend set at College of Charleston set for February 26-27.
