LOUDONVILLE, NY – The final Saturday home game is set to commence in the UHY Center Saturday evening, as the Siena Women's Basketball team hosts their Senior Day against the Marist Red Foxes at 5 p.m.
After being down by as many as 23 points in the first half, the Siena Saints cut the lead to as small as three points in the fourth quarter before they would fall to the Manhattan Jaspers by a final score of 69-61 from Riverdale.
Manhattan's Courtney Warley notched a 16 point, 19 rebound effort, while Jenna Jordan scored 19 points with six rebounds. Dee Dee Davis chipped in 14 points, and team-highs with four assists and two steals. Brazil Harvey-Carr would be the other Jasper in double-figures, putting in 11 points.
Fifth year
Rayshel Brown scored a team-high 18 points with five rebounds to lead the offense.
Selena Philoxy also finished with a strong game, scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Also scoring in double figures was senior
Margo Peterson, who poured in 13 points, including three makes from beyond the arc.
Siena and Marist meet for the 76th time, with the Red Foxes leading the series 42-33. As a head coach,
Jim Jabir is 4-1 all-time against the Red Foxes as a head coach, including a 3-1 record while at Siena. Prior to the win in January, his last win at Siena against the Red Foxes came on Dec. 12, 1988 in a 78-61 win in Poughkeepsie. His one other win not at Siena came while at the helm at Providence.
The last time the two teams met was back on Jan. 13 as Siena won their second game of their five-game winning streak by a final score of 69-53. It would be the Green and Gold's first win over the Red Foxes in 10 tries.
Leading the offensive effort was fifth-year
Rayshel Brown, who scored 16 points – all in the second half – while adding two steals and two blocks. Senior
Margo Peterson made all 15 of her points from distance, going 5-for-8 from behind the three point line. Fifth-year
Selena Philoxy almost snagged a double-double, going for nine points and 11 rebounds, adding two steals.
Marist was led by a 13-point effort from Zaria Shazer, who also added eight rebounds and two blocks. Kiara Fisher scored nine points while adding seven assists and five steals. Anabel Ellison also added five steals on the night, with Trinasia Kennedy and Julianna Bonilla each scoring nine points.
Marist (7-16, 5-10) is coming off a 51-41 win over Saint Peter's, which notched win number 450 in the career of head coach Brian Giorgis. The win snaps a six-game losing streak for the Red Foxes, dating back to January 27th. Saint Peter's 41 points is the fewest points allowed all season by Marist and well below their season average of 61.5 opponent points per game. Zaria Shazer was dominant all game, recording a team high 13 points and a team high seven rebounds. Marist forced 29 turnovers and was able to score 16 points off those turnovers. Trinasia Kennedy also got into double digits, scoring 12 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the free throw line.
