LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Women's Basketball team returns home and looks to win their second game in a row as they play host to the Canisius Golden Griffins on Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Saints look to avenge their loss to the Golden Griffins earlier this season in Buffalo.
Siena will be participating in the inaugural
Rising Coaches Equality and Inclusion Night, which seeks to support diversity, equity, and inclusion nationwide. The Saints will be showing their support in part by wearing black warmup tops, while coaches will be wearing all black on the sidelines as well as the "equal sign" lapel pin created to symbolize equality.
Led by fifth-years
Rayshel Brown and
Selena Philoxy, the Siena Women's Basketball team found their way to victory last Saturday evening as they defeated the Marist Red Foxes by a final score of 59-45 on Senior Day. The win clinched Siena their first regular season sweep over the Red Foxes since 2003-04.
Brown fell one rebound shy of her second double-double of the season, finishing with a team-high 13 points and nine rebounds. Philoxy collected another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes of work. Siena featured nine different scorers in the ballgame, as the Saints outscored the Red Foxes 30-18 in the paint.

Siena and Canisius meet for the 81
st time, with Siena holding a 54-26 advantage. As head coach,
Jim Jabir is 6-3 all-time against the Golden Griffins. His record at Siena sits at 4-3 including this year's matchup. His last win as head coach at Siena came in a 70-59 victory in Buffalo on Feb. 24, 1990 – exactly 32 years ago.
The last time the two teams met was back on Jan. 29 as
Rayshel Brown scored career-high 24 points on 12-for-14 shooting as the Saints fell in a heartbreaking 81-78 loss to Canisius to wrap up their Western New York swing. The Saints shot 59.2 percent from the field, which would be the highest in a game since Siena went 65.1 percent from the field in a 71-57 win at Manhattan on Feb. 25, 2007.
Canisius would set a program record of their own, knocking down 15 three-pointers on the afternoon for 55.6 percent from downtown. Sophomore Dani Haskell scored 24 points with five assists, while Athena Lexa scored 12 points. The Golden Griffins would dish 20 total assists as a team.
Backing up Brown's performance for the Saints was fifth-year
Selena Philoxy, as she poured in 20 points on 6-for-10 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 in the first half. Brown shot a perfect 6-for-6 in the first half as well, as Siena shot 61.9 percent in the first half. Brown also added a team-high seven rebounds, while freshman
Imani Harris scored eight points with five assists and four steals. Freshman
Valencia Fontenelle-Posson also notched a career-high with 10 points.
Canisius (4-22, 2-15) comes to Siena having lost back-to-back games to Manhattan and Rider. Over her last 12 appearances, freshman Athena Lexa has netted at least eight points in all but one game and has posted a double-digit point total in nine contests. She is averaging 12.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals in just over 28 minutes of action per game. Sophomore guard Dani Haskell has had the polar opposite of a sophomore slump this season. Haskell currently has the 10th-most points by a second-year player in Canisius' Division I era. She is one point away from tying Megan Lyte for ninth place, three points shy of Becky Zak for 8th place and 11 points from matching Anne Brocker for seventh place.
