LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Women's Basketball team takes to the floor in Hamden on Saturday afternoon, as they look to build off two straight wins as they face the Quinnipiac Bobcats at 1 p.m.
Sophomore
Ahniysha Jackson scored her way into a career night, pouring in a new career-best 21 points on seven three pointers as the Siena Saints took down the Canisius Golden Griffins by a final score of 56-54 at the UHY Center Thursday night.
Jackson's seven three pointers are tied for the second-most in a single game in program history, and the first to do so since Aaliyah Jones made seven versus Marist on Feb. 1, 2019. Jackson's seven three pointers also is a new high for a single game in the MAAC this season. In addition to the on-court accolades, Jackson and freshman
Valencia Fontenelle-Posson became the first local Albany duo to start in a game since the 2006-07 season when Shondaya Burrell and Katelyn Dooley started in the MAAC Semifinals against Marist.
Backing up Jackson's effort was fifth-year
Rayshel Brown, as she scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds – nine coming in the first half. It marks the second career double-double for Brown, as she sets a new career-high in rebounds.
Siena and Quinnipiac meet for the 19
th time in program history, with the Bobcats leading the series 16-2. However, both wins for the Saints have come in the last two years they have played in Hamden. Head Coach
Jim Jabir is 0-1 against the Bobcats, with their matchup earlier this year as his only game he's coached against the Bobcats.
The last time these two teams met was back on Jan. 8. Despite outscoring the Bobcats 31-30 in the second half, the Saints would fall by a final score of 68-51.
Leading the way for the Saints would be fifth-year
Selena Philoxy, who notched her first double-double in a Siena uniform by scoring a season-high 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Philoxy also added four steals, two assists, and a block to her stat line for the afternoon. Also in double figures would be senior
Rayshel Brown, as she scored 10 points and added five rebounds. Senior
Amari Anthony also had a solid game, finishing with eight points.
Quinnipiac was led by a pair of 13-point afternoon's from Mackenzie DeWees and Sajada Bonner. DeWees collected a double-double, also snagging 10 rebounds while dishing four assists and adding three steals. Amani Free also finished in double-digits with 12 points, while Mikayla Morris scored 10 points with a team-high 12 rebounds for a double-double as well.
Quinnipiac (17-9, 12-5) comes into Saturday as 11-3 in their last 14 games. Quinnipiac is averaging 68.1 points per game over its last 14 games and is outscoring opponents by 10.3 points during the span. The Bobcats have three players averaging double-figures in points over the last 14 games, led by DeWees 14.4 points per game. Mikala Morris is averaging 11.9 points per game, followed by Amani Free's 10.1 points per game. The Bobcats held a five-game win streak, dating back to their 75-53 road victory over Saint Peter's on Jan. 17 through the Feb. 3 61-50 win over Marist. Quinnipiac's win streak was tied for its second-longest in the last four seasons
