College of Charleston held Siena Baseball off the scoreboard entirely to complete a series sweep of the Saints with a 10-0 victory through seven innings at The Ballpark at Patriots Point in Charleston, South Carolina Sunday afternoon.
After taking a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, the Cougars again got the better of the Saints in the teams' first-ever series meeting. Charleston (6-1) got on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the first while retiring the first ten Siena (0-6) batters of the game defensively.
The Cougars' biggest inning came in the home half of the fourth, with an RBI single, two fielder's choices and an error leading to four more runs on the board for the home team. College of Charleston used what would prove to be the final two innings of the contest to plate five runs and enroll the mercy rule, which ended the game in the seventh. The Cougars scored three runs on two RBI singles in the sixth and used a wild pitch and an RBI ground out to close the game in the seventh.
Siena was out-hit, 9-3, in the loss, with sophomore
Kobe Stenson, redshirt-junior
Brett Young, and junior
Matt Livingston each collecting a base knock. Senior
Noah Rubino (0-1) took the loss on the mound for the Green and Gold, allowing five runs (three earned) off five hits with three strikeouts and four walks over three innings. Left-hander Connor Campbell (1-0) took the win for the Cougars, striking out four and allowing just two hits over six innings.
The Saints will again travel south in search of their first win of the season, heading to Alabama to face Jacksonville State for a three-game weekend set next weekend.
