Men’s Lacrosse Downs UMass Lowell

Saints Break Losing Streak in Road Victory

The Siena Men's Lacrosse team broke into the win column on Sunday afternoon, as they defeated the UMass Lowell Riverhawks by a final score of 14-10. The win marks the first win of the season for the Saints, led by senior Christian Watts' four goals on the afternoon.

Backing up Watts' four goals were four-point efforts from freshman Pratt Reynolds and senior Seth Van Schepen. Reynolds scored his second consecutive hat trick and added an assist, while Van Schepen scored one goal and dished three assists. Five other Saints scored, which included a three-point effort from Nick Casner. Dylan Pape went 19-for-27 in the faceoff X with nine ground balls, and Christopher Yanchoris nabbed 17 saves.

UMass Lowell was led by a four-point day from Conor Foley, as he scored three goals and tossed out an assist. Brian Wiles would finish with three points scoring two goals and an assist. Goaltender Anthony Mancino made 14 saves.

Despite the Riverhawks drawing first blood, the Saints used four answered goals to push themselves ahead. The run included a man-down goal from Reynolds, giving Siena the momentum. In the second quarter, a 6-1 run to end the first half pushed the Green and Gold to a 10-4 lead.

UMass Lowell made a push toward the end of the first half, scoring three straight to cut the Siena lead to 13-9 at that point. However, Reynolds' cap to the hat trick came with six minutes to play as the Siena defense held strong down the stretch giving up just one tally to clinch the victory.

The Saints return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 2 when they head across town to take on the UAlbany Great Danes at 7 p.m. at Casey Stadium.
