Men’s Lacrosse Battles in Loss at UAlbany

Saints Fall After Late Run by Great Danes

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Men's Lacrosse team came up just short across town on Wednesday night, as they fell to the UAlbany Great Danes by a final score of 11-7 at Casey Stadium.

The Great Danes got a five-point night from Amos Whitcomb, as he scored a pair of goals and dished three assists. Keelan Seneca scored a goal and also tossed out three assists for a four-point night. Graydon Hogg also scored twice, with six others chipping in with a goal. Goaltender Tommy Heller made 10 saves on the night for UAlbany.

Siena received a three-goal night from freshman Pratt Reynolds, marking his third straight game with a hat trick. Graduate student Nick Pepe also scored twice, while Jack Kiernan and Christian Watts each tossed in a tally. Luke Julien assisted on a pair of goals, while Kiernan, Seth Van Schepen, and George Rusnak also had assists. Senior Christopher Yanchoris made 11 saves in the cage for the Green and Gold.

It was all UAlbany off the start, as the Great Danes were the only ones to score in the first quarter. The game consisted of multiple runs on both sides, as the Saints had to wait for theirs in the second half. The Green and Gold broke the ice with a Kiernan goal with 12:13 to play in the second quarter. Watts and Pepe each scored before the end of the first half, as the Great Danes led 6-3 at the midway point.

UAlbany gained their largest lead of the day after scoring the first two goals of the second half to make it 8-3 with 11:55 to play. From there, Siena busted through with three straight goals as Pepe and Reynolds were the benefactors. Those scores made it an 8-6 game heading to the fourth. However, a 6-on-3 man-up goal disrupted the Siena momentum, as the Great Danes outscored the Saints 3-1 in the final frame to take the 11-7 victory.

Siena outshot the Great Danes 37-36 on the game, while UAlbany took the advantage in shots on goal 22-17. The Saints forced 19 UAlbany turnovers, and finished 21-of-24 in clears. The Great Danes also won the ground ball battle by a final tally of 36-29.

The Saints return to action this weekend on Saturday, Mar. 5 as Siena returns home to take on Dartmouth at 11 a.m.
