Siena Baseball out-hit the Citadel 12-5, but the Bulldogs benefited from 14 walks and five hit batsmen to take the rubber game of the series 13-7 in Charleston, South Carolina. The teams combined for 55 runs in the high scoring series, with The Citadel holding a narrow 29-26 advantage over the weekend.
Siena (1-11) built a seemingly strong 5-0 lead through four and a half innings, punctuated by a three-run fourth. The Saints worked some two-out magic in the frame, receiving an RBI single from
Willie Schwarick and a two-run double off the bat of
Matt Livingston.
Vincent DiNicola capped the early advantage with a solo home run in the fifth.
But the Citadel (10-5) responded with a decisive 10-run fifth. After being held hitless through the first four innings of the first collegiate start by
Billy Rozakis, the Bulldogs managed three hits in the fifth. However, it wasn't the hits, but rather eight walks and a pair of hit batsmen that propelled the Bulldogs in a frame in which they sent 16 men to the plate.
Kobe Stenson continued his hot start to the season for Siena, tallying three more hits while scoring a pair of runs. Stenson now boasts a team-leading .357 batting average and a whopping 1.009 OPS through the first 12 games against competition from down south.
Siena returns to the Northeast for the first time this season, when the Saints travel to Fairleigh Dickinson for their first midweek contest of the spring Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Teaneck, New Jersey.
