Siena Baseball scored eight unanswered runs highlighted by a seven-run sixth inning to rally past Fairleigh Dickinson 9-5 Wednesday afternoon in Teaneck, New Jersey.
Vincent DiNicola punctuated the comeback with a grand slam.
DiNicola,
Alex Milone, and
Brett Young each registered a pair of hits and drove in multiple runs apiece to pace a surging Siena (2-11) offense which has averaged 8.3 runs over the past five games.
Freshman hurler
Noah Wieczorek tossed three shutout innings to earn his first collegiate win for the Saints, and combined with classmates
Arnad Mulamekic and
Trevor Kobryn to throw 7.1 innings while allowing just two runs.
Fairleigh Dickinson (3-13) scored three times in fourth and added two more in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.
But Siena batted around, sending 10 men to the plate during the decisive sixth inning. The Saints managed just two hits in the frame, but both were big blows featuring a two-run single by Young and the grand slam from DiNicola. Siena worked five walks in the frame.
Milone capped the comeback with his first home run of the season to straightaway center in the eighth.
The Saints return to action this weekend when they travel to 24
th ranked Maryland. The three-game series commences with doubleheader action Saturday at noon.
