LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Women's Lacrosse team returns to Hickey Field on Tuesday afternoon for a matchup with the #22 UMass Minutewomen at 3 p.m. The Saints look to break a three-game losing skid.
After starting their season winning two of three, the Saints have fallen in three in a row and look to catch their stride Tuesday. Fifth-year
Nicole McNeely ranks fourth in the MAAC in points per game (3.83), leading the way mostly on the assists side of the offense – where she also ranks fourth in the conference (1.83).
The Siena Saints struggled offensively on Friday afternoon, as they fell to the Harvard Crimson by a final score of 11-4 in Boston. Senior
Mary Soures scored twice, while
Nicole McNeely dished out a pair of assists to match Soures in the box score in points.
Jenna Colabufo grabbed a team-high three ground balls. The Saints converted two of their four free position attempts while the Crimson led the draw control battle 13-6.
Jordan Bentley and
Laura Bonomo went back-to-back with goals in the fourth to cut the Harvard lead to five at 9-4, but another pair of goals from the Crimson kept the game out of reach for Siena.
UMass (4-2), who jumped into the national rankings at #22 on Monday, are coming off an 18-7 defeat over Vanderbilt on Friday afternoon. Alex Finn led the Minutewomen with four goals in the contest. Four Minutewomen posted hat-tricks, led by Finn who had four goals and two assists to lead with six points total, followed by Kelly Marra, Kendra Harbinger, and Olivia Muscella with three each. Fiona McGowan was the only other UMass player to post a multi-goal game, while Amy Moreau, Quinn Daly, and Kylee Bowen each tabbed a goal in the victory.
The Minutewomen and Saints meet for the third time, with the Minutewomen winning both games against the Saints in 2011 and 2012. The last time they both met, UMass was also ranked, #17 by the IWLCA – one of four opponents the Saints have faced in the Top-20 in program history. In that game, the No. 17 UMass women's lacrosse team used an 11-goal run to start the first half before taking the 19-6 victory at McGuirk Stadium.
