LOUDONVILLE, NY – Senior
Mary Soures scored a team-high five goals on Saturday afternoon, making her the eighth member of the 100 goal club in program history as her standout effort helped guide the Saints to a 11-9 victory over the La Salle Explorers at Hickey Field.
Soures' is the latest member of the club since fifth-year
Nicole McNeely notched her 100
th career goal in the team's opening game this season. Soures added an assist for a six-point day, while freshman
Grace Dobrzynski collected four assists on the afternoon. McNeely scored a goal and an assist for a pair of points, while freshman
Jordan Bentley also added two goals. Goaltender
Ally Mervine scored her second win of the season in cage by making a season-high 12 saves.
La Salle was led by a seven-goal effort from Emily Johnston, who also led all players with six draw controls. Maddie Henderson also scored a pair of goals with an assist, and Maddie Dachowski tossed out an assist.
Despite giving up the opening goal of the game, the Saints quickly jumped ahead with four straight goals to end the first quarter for a 4-1 lead. Both sides combined for seven goals in the second quarter, with Lal Salle closing the gap and making it a 7-5 game at the halfway point.
In the third, both sides traded goals until the end of the quarter, as the clock expired Soures scored her fifth and record-setting goal in the final second to give the Saints a three-goal lead heading into the final frame. Mervine came through with some big saves down the stretch, only allowing two goals in the fourth despite the Saints only giving up one as the Green and Gold hung on for the win.
Both sides were about even in shots, draw controls, and turnovers, as the Saints won the ground ball battle in a big way with a 26-11 margin.
The Saints return to action this Wednesday, Mar. 23 as they head south to Staten Island to take on Wagner at 4 p.m. in their non-conference finale of the season.
