The 7-9 hitters combined to post eight hits, score nine times, and drive in 11 runs as 24
th ranked Maryland completed the weekend sweep with a 19-2 triumph over Siena Baseball in College Park. Three Terrapins pitchers combined to strike out 18 batters.
Maryland (16-3) scored 18 of its 19 runs from the fourth inning on. The Terps broke things open with a 6-run fourth to take a 7-0 lead, before adding four more runs in the fifth on their way to improving to a perfect 9-0 at home.
Siena (2-14) tallied three of its four hits and scored both runs in the ninth inning on a two-run single by
Matt Livingston.
Five Maryland players tallied five multi-hit performances, with five also driving in two runs or more. The Terps pounded out 18 hits – 10 of which went for extra bases – and worked 11 walks.
Jason Savacool tossed seven shutout innings allowing just one hit while walking three and striking out 14 to earn the win for Maryland.
Siena begins a packed five-game week Tuesday when they travel to the Bronx to battle Fordham in a non-conference tilt at 3 p.m.
