LOUDONVILLE, NY – Winners in three of its last four contests, Siena Women's Basketball (9-18, 9-10 MAAC) enters the final game of the 2021-22 regular season with a chance to lock up a postseason bye for the first time in four seasons. The Saints will control their own destiny when they face off with conference rival Monmouth (14-14, 9-10 MAAC) at the OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, New Jersey on Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 PM.

Facing Monmouth for the final time as conference counterparts before the Hawks depart for the CAA, Siena will play for a chance to lock up the No. 5 seed in the 2022 Hercules Tires MAAC Women's Basketball Championships next week. The Saints will earn a first-round bye for the first time since the 2017-18 season with a win, and would take the court in Atlantic City against No. 4 Niagara on Thursday, March 10. Should Siena lose, it would be in line for either the No. 6 or 7 seeds and would play on Tuesday, March 8. Siena holds the head-to-head tiebreakers with both Saint Peter's and Monmouth, as all three aim to lock up the tournament's final bye.

The Green and Gold closed out home play with a convincing 69-58 victory over Saint Peter's to earn a series split with the Peacocks Thursday evening at the UHY Center. Leading by as many as 19 in the third quarter, the Saints saw four players reach double figures for the first time since their win over Regular Season Champion Fairfield on January 22. Sophomore Ahniysha Jackson led the team in scoring for the second time this year with 14 points, while freshman Valencia Fontenelle-Posson recorded her first collegiate double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Fifth year Rayshel Brown added 11 points and seven rebounds, while freshman Anajah Brown went for a career high 11 points and fifth year Selena Philoxy added 11 rebounds. Siena poured on 51 rebounds while shooting 37 percent from the field and holding SPU's leading scorer Kendrea Williams to eight points.

Siena will look for its first sweep of the Hawks since the 2016-17 season in the 26th all-time meeting between the two programs. Siena holds a 13-12 advantage in the all-time series after breaking the series deadlock with a 61-54 victory in its 21st Annual Pink Zona game on February 3. Brown posted her first career double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds, while senior Margo Peterson added 16 points and Philoxy went for 12 points and eight boards. Monmouth's Stella Clark led all scorers with 21 points, while Belle Kranbuhl added 13 rebounds. Siena forced 24 Monmouth turnovers in the win while blocking a season-best six shots, which it tied in Thursday's win over SPU.

Both the Saints and the Hawks will look to end overperforming regular seasons on a high note, with the Saints picked to finish ninth and Monmouth selected tenth in the 2021-22 MAAC Preseason coaches Poll. Also led by a first-year head coach in Ginny Boggess, Monmouth most recently ended a six-game losing skid with a 52-44 win over Marist on Wednesday. Kranbuhl led the team with 18 points to give the Hawks a chance at their first winning season since the 2011-12 campaign (19-13).

Entering Saturday's regular season finale, Kranbuhl leads the MAAC in blocks with 50 and 1.85 per-game, while Clark ranks third in the league in assists per-game at 4.2 and is the only Hawk to average double-figure scoring with 11.4 points per-game in her first season at Monmouth. Saturday's contest will also serve as Monmouth's Senior Day celebration, with Clark, Brianna Livingston, Jen Louro, Lucy Thomas, and Alexa Wallace set to be honored.

All fans 18 and over who plan to attend Saturday's contest at the OceanFirst Bank Center are required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test administered by a doctor's office or a clinic within 72 hours of the event time for indoor Athletic events. Home test kit results will not be accepted.

Following the results of Saturday's MAAC contests, the official bracket for the 2022 Hercules Tires MAAC Men's & Women's Basketball Championship will be released ahead of the tournament, which is set for March 8-12 at the Jim Whalen Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.
