Saints Set for First Tournament Match in 12 Years

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Men's Tennis team is set for their first MAAC Tournament match since the 2010 season, as the No. 2 Saints will square off with the No. 3 seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. The winner will move on to Sunday's championship match against either No. 1 Monmouth or No. 4 Niagara.

The Saints enter the tournament coming off the best season in program history, totaling up a new program record 14 wins, and putting up a 4-2 mark in the MAAC. The Saints are coming off a win this past weekend over the same Quinnipiac Bobcats they will face on Saturday. Siena came away with a 5-2 win, which clinched them the second seed in the tournament.

Sophomore Darek Kuczynski headlined the All-MAAC selections for the Siena Men's Tennis program on Friday morning, as he took home All-MAAC First Team honors at No. 5 singles. Kuczynski was joined by freshman Mathis Tremblay with an All-MAAC Second Team selection at No. 6 Singles. Tremblay, along with Jose Pablo Davila, were also selected to the All-MAAC Second Team for No. 3 Doubles.

Quinnipiac went 4-2 in MAAC play during the regular season, winning seven total matches during the campaign. The Bobcats came away with a few All-MAAC selections, with Ayato Arakaki and Donovan Brown earning All-MAAC First Team status at the No. 2 doubles position to lead the way for the Bobcats. Shaurya Sood (No. 3 singles), Donovan Brown (No. 6 singles) and Javier Cassasolas/Shaurya Sood (No. 1 doubles) were all named to the All-MAAC Second Team.

The last MAAC Tournament match the Saints appeared in was back on Apr. 23, 2010 in Flushing Meadows at the USTA Center. Siena played the No. 3 seeded Saint Peter's Peacocks, falling 6-1 in the quarterfinal matchup. The Saints won the doubles point by taking the top doubles match and third doubles match 8-4. Freshman Michael Amico teamed with Jarrett Siwiec for an 8-4 win, with Vik Kabada pairing with Rob Cooperman in an 8-4 Siena win at No. 3 doubles.
