LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Women's Tennis team looks go take their second MAAC Championship ring in a row this weekend, as they begin their quest on Saturday against the No. 3 seed Fairfield Stags at 10 a.m.
The Saints are the defending MAAC Champions, as they took down both Fairfield and Quinnipiac as the No. 3 seed last season. It will be the same path in 2022, as the Saints enjoy the program's first MAAC regular season title since the 2005-06 season.
Returning much of the same lineup from last season's run, the Saints will look to the top of their lineup in senior
Meagan Brown and freshman
Laia Giralt. The duo combined for an All-MAAC Second Team selection at No. 1 Doubles, with Giralt taking home the MAAC Rookie of the Year – the second in program history behind Rina Sakai's honor in 2015. Her honor however, is the first unanimous Rookie of the Year selection in program history. Her and Brown combined for a 10-7 record at No. 1 Doubles.
Siena will also look to
Anastasia Koniaev and
Nanea Perkins, who both also earned All-MAAC honors. Junior
Maanya Viswanath and sophomore
Emma Boggiali will also be key players in the lineup, as the duo were both All-MAAC selections a year ago.
The winner of the match will face the winner between No. 1 Quinnipiac and No. 4 Niagara this Sunday, Apr. 24 at 10 a.m. in the MAAC Championship match at the Mercer Country Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey.
