LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Concluding weekend action at the 2022 MAAC Men's and Women's Golf Championships, both Siena Golf programs finished strong. The men re-gained second place to match its best finish since its 2016 title run, while the women placed eighth with an identical round from Saturday.
The Siena men carded the best team single round during the weekend at -3, 285 to move from fifth back into second place at +15, 879 and finish six strokes off of 2022 Champion Rider. The Saints' team round was good for its best round ever at a MAAC Championship event and the third-lowest in program history. The Saints' women replicated their round of +44, 332 to finish with +139, 1003 in sole possession of eighth place.
Rider shot +9, 873 to capture the men's MAAC title, while Quinnipiac won the women's crown for the second straight year at +37, 901. Rider's Austin Devereux shot -3, 213 on the weekend to capture his second consecutive McLeod Trophy as the top individual finisher, while Quinnipiac's Leeyen Peralta carded +2, 218 to win the women's individual title.
The men saw a student athlete earn All-MAAC honors as a top-ten individual finisher for the eighth straight year, with junior
Matthew Ferrari taking home the first honor of his collegiate career. The Croton-on-Hudson, New York native put together rounds of 74, 75, and 71 to finish in a four-way tie for seventh at +4, 220.
Juniors
Nolan Crowley (73-78-70) and
Jack Tobin (74-70-77) finished just outside the top-ten in a tie for 11th with +5, 221, while freshman
Dan Brooks (73-78-71) concluded his first MAAC Championship with +6, 222 to tie for 15
th. Senior
Brody Yates (82-77-73) rounded out the Saints' competition team in a tie for 33
rd at +16, 232.
The women saw freshman
Manoela Barcellos (81-78-76) shoot her best round of the weekend on Sunday to move up 13 spots into a tie for 12
th at +19, 235. Classmate
Jillian Barend (85-81-85) tied for 33
rd at +35, 251, while sophomore
Margot Osterman (85-86-82) split for 36
th with +37, 253. Senior
Lena Kaufman (88-87-89) placed 41
st at +48, 264, while junior
Emily Nash (97-91-91) shot +69, 279 to finish 43
rd.
Siena will now look forward to the 2022-23 season, which will begin in September.
