Playoff Hopes at Stake for Men’s Lacrosse Against Quinnipiac Saturday

Saints Face Bobcats With a Chance to Crack MAAC Tournament

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Men's Lacrosse team makes their way to Hickey Field for their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon, with playoff hopes on the line against the Quinnipiac Bobcats at 12 p.m. The Saints will also be hosting their annual Senior Day, where they will honor 14 seniors - Cole Allen, Nick Casner, Mitch Fanning, Luke Julien, Jack Kaffl, Jack Kiernan, Brandon Meir, Tyler Menniti, Izu Onyekachi, Nick Pepe, George Rusnak, Seth Van Schepen, Christian Watts, and Christopher Yanchoris.

Siena have won three of their last four games – including a 14-11 win over first place St. Bonaventure back on Apr. 16. With the streak, Siena has positioned themselves into fourth place in the MAAC, pulling into a tie with Monmouth. With a win, the Saints can clinch a playoff spot with their head-to-head tiebreaker with the Hawks.

Senior Christian Watts scored a hat trick and dished out an assist as he led the Siena Men's Lacrosse team to their 300th win as a program in an 11-8 victory at Holy Cross last Saturday. The win makes the Saints the 37th team in NCAA history to reach the milestone. Watts' performance was backed up by a trio of two-point efforts from Seth Van Schepen, Jack Kiernan, and Luke Julien. Kiernan scored twice, while Van Schepen and Julien tossed in a goal and assist apiece. Senior Christopher Yanchoris made 13 saves for his fifth win this season.

Quinnipiac (2-10, 1-4) are coming off a tough loss on Tuesday night to the No. 9 Yale Bulldogs by a final score of 20-13 in New Haven. The Bobcats have lost three in a row, with two losses coming against nationally-ranked opponents (No. 6 Virginia, No. 9 Yale). Their other loss was a conference loss to first place St. Bonaventure by a 10-8 final score. Ryan Donnery leads the points-getters for the Bobcats with 18 goals and 11 assists for 29 points, with John DeLucia the top goal-scorer with 20 on the season.

The Bobcats and Saints meet for the 13th time, with the Bobcats holding a slight 7-5 advantage in the previous 12 matchups. The last time they both met, the Bobcats ironically came out with a 7-5 win in Loudonville. Brendan Lantieri, Tyler Menniti, Dylan Pantalone, George Rusnak, and Christian Watts all scored goals for the Saints, while Brett Habich, Jack Kiernan, and Colin Gleason all notched assists. Jake Marcus would scoop a team-high three ground balls.
