Alex Milone went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate and
Ryan McGee scored four times as Siena Baseball routed Manhattan 11-2 in the series-opener on the campus of Pace University in Pleasantville, New York.
Mike McCully breezed through seven innings to earn the win for the Saints who are off to their third 5-2 league start since 2017.
Three of Milone's career-high five hits were doubles – two of which were of the ground-rule variety – and he knocked in a pair of runs to lead the Siena (8-20, 5-2) onslaught. Meanwhile McGee was on base four times and also knocked in a pair of runs, as did
Bryce Mordecki.
The Saints built a 4-2 lead over Manhattan (13-13, 4-3) through five innings before blowing things open with a decisive six-run sixth. Siena sent 11 men to the plate in the frame despite mustering only two hits, as they took full advantage of three walks, a pair of hit batsmen, and an error.
McCully scattered eight hits and allowed just a pair of unearned runs while walking only one and striking out six.
Siena will look to lock up the series win Saturday night when the teams meet for the middle game at 7:45 p.m.
