LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Baseball exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning to rally past Monmouth 8-3 on Senior Day at Connors Park.
Siena (11-33, 8-12) mustered just one run on three hits over the first seven innings against Monmouth (23-23, 11-8) ace Trey Dombroski. But the Hawks pulled the likely MAAC Pitcher of the Year after 98 pitches with a 3-1 lead heading to the home half of the eighth.
The Saints took full advantage.
Each of the first seven batters reached base safely against Monmouth relievers Stephen Aldrich and Ryan Bearse.
Vincent DiNicola, who registered a game-high three hits, knotted the score at 3-3 with a run scoring single, while
Matt Livingston followed with an RBI base-knock of his own to complete the comeback.
Donovan Montgomery then doubled home two insurance runs, while
Vincenzo Castronovo capped a seven-hit frame with an RBI single.
The eight runs of support were more than enough for
Ben Seiler who fired eight strong innings to earn the win.
The Saints' seniors will walk across the stage at MVP Arena to receive their Siena College degrees Sunday morning, before returning to Connors Park in search of securing the series win at 2 p.m.
