LOUDONVILLE, NY – The decisive rubber game of the series between Siena Baseball and Monmouth Sunday afternoon at Connors Park was halted in the bottom of the third inning due to weather. The game was scoreless at the time it was called off.
Siena (11-33, 8-12) had runners on first and second with two outs and
Alex Milone up with a 1-2 count when the game went into a lightning delay at 2:41 p.m. local time. The weather delay extended for nearly two hours, before torrential rain descended on Connors Park and rendered the field unplayable once the inclement weather subsided. The official delay lasted two hours and 24 minutes before the game was officially called off.
The contest had been an early pitcher's duel between southpaws
Billy Rozakis of the Saints and Rob Hensey for Monmouth (23-23, 11-8). Each pitcher had allowed just one hit, with
Bryce Mordecki registering the lone Siena knock in the second. Rozakis threw 26 of his 35 pitches for strikes through three scoreless frames in which he struck out three and finished facing just one batter over the minimum.
But Rozakis' impressive start was washed away, as all of the statistics from the game were wiped out due to the contest not finishing as an official game. Additionally, neither team is credited with a decision, and the game will not be completed at a later date.
Siena returns to action Tuesday when they conclude their home slate with a non-conference matchup vs. LIU at 1 p.m. at Connors Park. Originally slated for Apr. 19, the matchup was rescheduled to May 17 following a weather-related postponement.
