LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Water Polo Head Coach Alex Williams announced the addition of four incoming student athletes to the team's 2022 recruiting class, bringing the team's newcomer total to a record nine Saints. The Green and Gold will welcome Stella Chopskie, Finn Magill, Clarissa Robles, and Mackenzie Russell to the Capital Region beginning this fall.
The four will join five previously announced signees in making up the largest incoming class in program history. Bianca Kennerley, Audrey Lacey, Catherine Morin, Parker Thomas, and Samantha Varrie were announced as incoming additions to the team back in November 2021.
"Our program is very proud and excited to welcome nine newcomers to our team," Williams said. "Assistant Coach Jacob Castro and I have enjoyed getting to know each student athlete and their families throughout the recruiting process and are impressed with everyone's commitment to create a legacy at Siena. We know we have the right group of people, and I am so grateful for the hard work our returning players and staff have put in to make this great recruiting class possible. The 2022-23 academic year is going to be a lot of fun!"
Stella Chopskie | Attacker | La Jolla, California | La Jolla High School
A standout at La Jolla High School, Chopskie was named her school's Attacker of the Year in 2021, and helped them to a California Division Two State Regional Championship in 2022. A member of the Western League's All-League Team, she was also named to the San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic Team.
Finn Magill | Center | Brisbane, Australia | Brisbane Girls Grammar School
Set to become the first player in program history to hail from the Land Down Under, Magill was selected to play on the Queensland U20 All-State Water Polo Team at the Australian National Championships this past year. A five-time Queensland All-State Team selection from 2018-22 while competing at National Championships, she was also selected to the Metropolitan North All-Region School Girls' Water Polo Team that won the State Championship in 2021. Magill was a team captain of the Brisbane Girls Grammar School First Team, and also helped the Mermaids Water Polo Club win a Bronze Medal at the KAP7 California State Competition.
Clarisa Robles | Utility | Burbank, California | John Burroughs High School
A starter throughout high school, Robles scored 67 goals and led her team in assists en-route to being named First Team All-League and earning the Coaches Award this past season. She led her high school program in scoring during her freshman and sophomore seasons, and also earned First Team All-League honors during her sophomore campaign while playing for the Rose Bowl Water Polo Club's 16B team in the 2020 Junior Olympics. Robles was named a 2020-21 USA Water Polo Academic All-American, and was recognized for academics during her sophomore and senior seasons.
Mackenzie Russell | Utility | Newberg, Oregon | Newberg High School (Cal State East Bay)
Russell joins the Saints after previously attending Cal State East Bay in Hayward, California, and Azusa Pacific outside of Los Angeles. A 2020 GCC All-American, she was also named a USA Water Polo Academic All-American in 2018. Russell earned First Team All-State honors during her junior and senior seasons of high school competition, while winning State MVP in 2018 and League MVP the following year.
Siena Water Polo is set to return eight letterwinners from last season, and will look to improve from a 4-25 record in 2022.
