LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of John "Jack" DuBois. Both the winningest and longest tenured head coach in Siena Football history, DuBois passed away on Friday, July 8 at the age of 93.
DuBois led the Siena Football program for 14 seasons from 1982-95, while amassing 49 victories. He guided Siena through its transition from a club program to the NCAA Division III ranks in 1988, and eventually the NCAA Division I-AA level in 1993. DuBois piloted the Green and Gold to a pair of program record-tying nine-win seasons in both 1985 and 1986, highlighted by a club championship game appearance in 1985. He coached 26
Associated Press All-American selections, including future Siena Hall of Famers Reggie Greene and Tim Holloway.
A native of nearby Troy, New York, DuBois attended Catholic Central High and was a 1958 graduate of SUNY Oneonta where he earned his master's degree in education. Prior to taking the reins of the Siena Football program, he spent the previous seven years as the head football coach at his high school alma mater Catholic Central. DuBois also served as the women's basketball head coach at nearby Division III Sage in 2002-03.
DuBois is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy, his three children, Katie, John David (Katherine), and Christopher (Gloria), his three grandchildren, Jackson, Madelyn, and Nathaniel, as well as his nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 11 from 5-7 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, located at 149 Old Loudon Road in nearby Latham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 12 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, located at 498 Watervliet Shaker Road in Latham. Memorial donations may be made to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Shriners Hospital for Children.
