Siena Continues to Score High Marks in Latest NCAA APR Report

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena University Athletics continues to excel academically, according to the NCAA Academic Progress Rate Report. Five Siena Athletics programs – the highest total in three years – achieved perfect multi-year APR scores of 1,000, while 12 sports scored unblemished marks for the most recent 2024-25 academic year reflected in the report.

"At Siena, our student athletes bring the same intensity to the classroom that they do to competition," said Siena University President Chuck Seifert, Ph.D. "These results reflect more than discipline – they reflect a genuine passion for learning and a commitment to growth. Success like this doesn't happen by accident; it comes from students who are fully engaged, supported, and motivated to excel in every aspect of their Siena experience."

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR report measures eligibility, graduation, and retention each semester or academic term, with student athletes earning one point for staying on course for a degree in their chosen major, and one point for being retained (or graduating) at the end of each academic term. A team's total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000. The NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program helps to ensure that schools are fulfilling their commitment to equip student athletes with the tools and resources necessary to achieve academic success. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25 academic years.

"These outstanding APR results speak to a culture where academic success is both expected and supported," said Provost Margaret Madden, Ph.D. "Our student athletes are deeply engaged in their learning, and they benefit from strong partnerships with faculty, advisors, and coaches who are committed to their development. It's a powerful example of what can be achieved when we align high expectations with meaningful support."

Siena men's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, women's soccer, and women's tennis all achieved perfect multi-year APR scores of 1,000 in the latest report. This marks the sixth consecutive NCAA APR report in which men's cross country has achieved a perfect 1,000 multi-year score, while women's soccer earns honors for the fourth straight year, and men's golf for the third year in a row.

"Winning in competition is important, but winning in the classroom and securing a degree is the ultimate goal and our Saints continue to excel in this area," said Vice President and Director of Athletics John D'Argenio. "These high marks are not just a testament to our outstanding student athletes, but also thanks to the strong support infrastructure they are provided through our S.A.IN.T.S. Office and campus partners."

A total of 12 Siena Athletics programs also achieved perfect 1,000 APR scores for the most recent 2024-25 academic year. Men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, men's track, women's cross country, women's golf, women's lacrosse, softball, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, and women's track each recorded unblemished marks for the most recent year of reporting.

"Our student athletes excel not only in competition, but in the classroom," said Assistant Athletic Director/Advising Anthony Pelliccia. "Being a Saint means leading – in their sport, in the community, and in their academic and professional pursuits. I'm incredibly proud of the commitment our students show every day. Siena provides the support and opportunity for them to grow athletically, academically, and personally, and they continue to make the most of it."

A total of nine Siena Athletics programs also outpaced the national four-year Academic Progress Rate of 986, which rose by two points after having remained steady for each of the previous four years.

This is the fifth consecutive year of publicly reported APRs after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, the Division I Board of Directors approved the release of APR scores but voted to continue the suspension of program penalties. Normal Academic Performance Program penalties and loss of access to postseason competition returned last year and will continue this year. Teams scoring below the 930 benchmark will receive strategic penalties that encourage an emphasis on academics.
