LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Women's Tennis team faired well in their opening day of competition, as they hosted the Siena Invitational at the Sharp Courts at RPI. All matches were played with pro sets, with all matches going to eight points.
Leading the Saints with two singles wins would be reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year, sophomore
Laia Giralt. Giralt stayed in the main draw of Singles A with two wins – one 8-3 over Alex Mednikova of RPI and then another 8-3 win over Bella Moen of Seton Hall. Junior
Alexa Wilson did the same in Singles B, winning 8-5 and 8-4 to advance in the main draw of Singles B play tomorrow.
Meagan Brown,
Emma Boggiali,
Maanya Viswanath, and
Reegan Mullaney each collected one win on the day. Brown won her first match before falling in the second to eliminate her from the main draw. Boggiali lost her first matchup before taking an 8-0 win to remain in the Singles A back draw for competition on Saturday. Viswanath won her first match before falling like Brown, while Mullaney did the same as Boggiali with a loss followed by an 8-4 win to advance to play tomorrow.
In Singles C,
Madeline De Faber-Schumacher,
Shelby Madeiros, and
Jade Gautier each won their first matchups before falling in their second matches to be eliminated from play.
In Doubles, Brown and Wilson paired up with a 6-0 victory to advance, while Boggiali and Viswanath did thew same in Doubles B.
Siena returns to play tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 a.m. from the Sharp Courts at RPI for the second and final day of the Siena Invitational.
