LOUDONVILLE, NY – Members of both of Siena's basketball teams continued a long-standing tradition of engaging with school children in the local community Monday morning by returning to in-person school visits for the first time in three years. Student athletes and coaches from the Siena Men's and Women's Basketball squads participated in virtual school visits with several Capital Region-area schools Monday, as part of Siena Athletics' "Adopt-A-School" program and its continued involvement in the local community.
Monday's visits coincided with the return of Siena Women's Basketball's annual Kids Day game, which saw the Saints take a 61-46 victory over defending MAAC champion Fairfield at the UHY Center on Thursday, January 5 to the tune of 1,716 in attendance.
This year's Kids Day and school visits are sponsored by MVP Health Care, which also provided Siena Basketball tickets to students at select schools to promote academic & scholastic achievements as part of the "Shoot for the Stars" initiative.
The Saints set out around the Capital Region to make visits with elementary and middle school-aged children at the Albany School of Humanities in Albany, All Saints Catholic Academy in Albany, Oneida Middle School in Schenectady, and Voorheesville Elementary School in Voorheesville. Â
Players and coaches from both teams introduced themselves and answered questions from students and teachers that covered a variety of topics, including the life of a student-athlete, balancing academics and athletics, their favorite activities, and more. Students also participated in basketball drills and activities led by Siena players. Â
Siena Men's Basketball (11-5, 5-0) enters the week in sole possession of the top spot in the MAAC and on a six-game win streak, while Siena Women's Basketball (10-5, 4-1) is tied for first place in the league and has won four-in-a-row.
