BRONX, NY – Siena Men's Cross Country junior
Jackson Cayward took home All-IC4A honors for the first time in his collegiate career as Siena continued fall action by running in the IC4A/ECAC Cross Country Championships AT STORIED Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx, New York on Friday.
The Tolland, Connecticut native finished 13
th in the men's 8k with a new personal best time of 24:19.8, good for the best finish amongst MAAC competitors at the race and the sixth-fastest cross country 8k time in program history.
Siena's women's cross country program logged a 12
th place team finish, while the men finished 22
nd as a team.
Graduate student
Madeline Hesler led the women with a 35
th place finish and a time of 21:51.3 in the women's 6k, while junior
Julia Caputo (22:07.1) took 55
th place. Freshman
Kyra Pellegrino (22:32.9), senior
Katharine Hesler (22:36.1), and junior
Claire Gardner (22:45.1) rounded out the team's top five finishers with 84
th, 91
st, and 110
th place finishes, respectively.
Following Cayward on the men's side were senior
Christopher DeForest (25:48.4) and fifth year
Tommy Anderson (25:50.7), who took 150
th and 154
th place, respectively. Junior
Nathaniel Sletten (25:54.4) and junior
Chris Bertola (25:57.1) rounded out the men's top-five finishers.
Men's sophomore
Brody Santagata (26:19.7, 37
th) and women's junior
Christina Peppy (24:04.3, 30
th) led both teams in their respective open races.
Siena's road to the 2023 MAAC Cross Country Championships continues at the CCSU Mini Meet in New Britain, Connecticut on Friday, October 20.
