Cross Country & Track Duo Named Leo Dufort Student Athletes of the Month for October

Laframboise, Vinciguerra Honored for October

LOUDONVILLE, NY – A pair of longtime members of the Siena Cross Country & Track program were honored with the latest Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month awards on Tuesday afternoon. Men's fifth year Matthew Laframboise and women's graduate student Sophia Vinciguerra earned the awards for the month of October.

A five-year letterwinner of the men's program and a team captain this season, Laframboise earned the Male Coaches Award for the 2022-23 season, and has been a part of three 4x800 relay teams that have set the school record in the event, including the most recent edition on May 15, 2023. A native of Rochester, NY, he currently owns the second-fastest time in program history in the 1,000 and the fourth-fastest in both the 800 and 1,500.

Laframboise will graduate in the spring with a degree in Applied Physics, and currently holds a 3.78 cumulative GPA while posting a perfect 4.0 mark during the Spring 2023 semester. A member of the MAAC All-Academic Team and MAAC Academic Honor Roll throughout his collegiate career, he was a CSC Academic All-District selection last year.

Also a five-year letterwinner and a two-time team captain, Vinciguerra owns the program's freshman 6k record, is second in the freshman 5k, eighth all-time in the 5k, and tenth all-time in the 6k. A product of Syracuse, NY, she took home MAAC Cross Country All-MAAC honors during the 2021 season with a 13th place finish, and was also All-East with a 35th place finish at ECAC Cross Country Championships that year.

A 2023 graduate of Siena with a Bachelor's degree in marketing with a 3/74 cumulative GPA, Vinciguerra is currently earning her MBA. She has been a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team and MAAC Academic Honor Roll throughout college, and was a CSC Academic All-District selection in 2022.

The Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes exemplary achievements in both academics and athletics. The late Leo Dufort received a B.S. in marketing and management from Siena in August of 1977. His entire academic career was completed on a part-time basis beginning in the spring of 1961, as a married adult while at the same time raising five children. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack while cross country skiing in February of 1993. His wife Jeanine wanted to do something to immortalize his memory. The original plaque was donated to athletics and the department began the Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award to help carry out his legacy. Dufort graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1954 and was a Navy Veteran (USS Bennington) who worked for JL Hammett Co. at the time of his death.
