Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Fast Start Fades at #22 UMass

Wangsness scored twice, Krasner sets career mark in saves

It was the start that the Siena Women's Lacrosse team had hoped for—a two-goal advantage with their defense holding strong midway through the opening quarter on the road against a nationally-ranked opponent.

But, midway between the first and second quarters, it got away from them as the Saints allowed seven unanswered goals in that span as Siena lost 14-5 to #22 UMass on Wednesday afternoon at Garber Field in Amherst, MA.

The hot start began when redshirt sophomore Jordan Bentley made a dodge, worked past her defender on the right side and fired in the first goal at the 12:01 mark. Just over three minutes later, defense turned into offense as senior defender Kendra MacCaull sprung free and went coast-to-coast to put the Saints up 2-0.

The Saints (1-2) lost the lead with 13 seconds remaining in the first quarter when the Minutemen's Charlotte Wilmouth scored on a woman-down situation to put them on top for good.  The lead increased to 7-2 on Erin Seibel's second goal of the afternoon before the Saints' Kelly Logue cashed in on the woman up advantage with just one second left on the clock before halftime.

Katy Wangsness led Siena with both of her goals coming in the second half. In net, Sabrina Krasner made career-high 16 saves for the Saints.

UMass outshot Siena 41-18 including a 30-13 advantage in shots on goal. The Saints committed twice as many turnovers (16-8).

Siena will return home on Saturday to host Binghamton for a 2 p.m. draw time at Hickey Field. The game will be carried on Siena All-Access
