Women’s Lacrosse Stymies Binghamton

Saints Tie Mark for Fewest Goals Allowed in Nearly Eight Years

LOUDONVILLE, NY – A pair of hat tricks by Katy Wangsness and Laura Bonomo provided the offensive spark.  A vaulted defensive effort spearheaded by Jenna Colabufo and Sabrina Krasner in goal uplifted the Siena Women's Lacrosse team on their way to an 11-5 home victory against nonconference opponent Binghamton on a snowy Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field.

The five goals allowed matched the program's lowest total in nearly eight years since a 18-1 win against UMass Lowell on March 11, 2015 at Hickey Field. It ties the least amount of goals allowed on six other occasions over this time span.

Siena (2-2) took the lead for good at 3-2 with :20 seconds left in the first quarter on a goal by Jordan Bentley. They never looked back after that as Wangsness and Bonomo went to work on the offensive, scoring the Saints' next six goals over the next two and a half plus quarters to extend the lead to 9-4 with 6:23 left to play. Kelly Logue assisted on three of them.

Wangsness continued her uber reliable start to the season. The senior attacker has tallied at least three points in three games thus far.  Bonomo scored her first three goals of the season and did it in an efficient manner by scoring all in nearly a quarter of time toward the end of the second quarter to 3:09 left in the third.

On defense, Colabufo lived up to her billing as one of the conference's best defenders, often pestering the Bearcats' (1-3) offense. The senior scooped four groundballs, caused a turnover and utilized her speed throughout the game to clear the ball herself on multiple occasions.

Krasner stopped seven shots between the pipes for a .583 save percentage and allowed the fewest goals she has this season.

Leading 9-5 into the fourth quarter, the Saints added two insurance goals from Logue.

Siena returns to action this Wednesday at St. Bonaventure for a 1 p.m. opening draw. Siena defeated the Bonnies 18-6 in their last meeting in 2019.
