When the Siena Women's Lacrosse team saw their five-goal lead evaporate and lose the lead, it was no time to panic. Instead, the Saints dug in and scored five of the game's last seven goals to withstand hosts St. Bonaventure 14-12 in Western New York on Wednesday afternoon.
Siena (3-2) beat St. Bonaventure for the third consecutive time and now have won six of the last seven meetings with the Bonnies dating back to 2014.
It was a career day marked by the performance of junior
Rebecca Gilhooley, who equaled her career total goals with five on the day including one with 3:00 remaining the third quarter to tie it at 10 all and another on a man-up situation with 3:04 left in the game to pad a two-goal advantage. She also had an assist.
The Saints had built a 9-4 lead just before halftime, but saw the Bonnies (1-4) reel off six straight goals to take a 10-9 lead with 5:27 left in the third quarter. Outside of Gilhooley, the Saints received big goals from
Katy Wangsness and
Grace Dobrzynski to retake a 12-11 lead.
Kelly Logue put in her seventh goal of the season on a feed from Dobrzynski to push it to a two-goal advantage with 8:48 left. After Abby Hiltz scored her fourth of the game for the Bonnies, Gilhooley put the finishing touches on the game with her fifth of the afternoon.
Dobrzynski led the Saints with a team-high seven points (two goals, five assists), redshirt sophomore
Jordan Bentley was credited with seven draw controls and scored twice while Logue added a goal and a pair of assists.
Sabrina Krasner (3-2) turned away 12 shots in goal for a .500 save percentage and had a team-high six groundballs. The senior from Roseland, NJ leads the MAAC in save percentage (.519), is tied for first in saves per game (11.00) and ranks fourth in goals against average (10.20).
Siena returns home to host New Hampshire (1-3) this Saturday for a noon draw time at Hickey Field.
