Box Score The Siena Men's Tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision against nonconference opponent Boston College at the Wimbledon 109 Club Indoor Tennis Facility on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints (3-3) were backed by the play of
Dante Russo and
Edward Vo, who both earned sweeps in their competition.
The duo paired together to overcome JJ Bianchi and Mai Gao 6-4 from the doubles #2 spot in 30 minutes and then each won from their singles position.
Russo gritted out a well-contested match from the #1 singles ranking, topping the Eagles' Max Motlagh 6-3, 5-7 [10-7] in one hour and 38 minutes while Vo defeated Will Kasten in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, in just under an hour of play.
Siena nearly pulled out the victory.
Tomas del Olmo and
Jose Pablo Davila lost a tie-breaker on the #3 doubles court by a margin of 7-6 [7-2] to Mason Fung and Jake Vassel.
In the singles #3 match,
Agustin Suarez pushed Gao to three sets.
After Suarez won the first set 6-4, he dropped the next two sets 4-6, 1-6.
The Eagles improved to 3-0 on the season.
"The guys fought hard in doubles and almost pulled off the point, pushing to a breaker," said Siena head tennis coach
Jeff Osborn.
"We had great matches in singles one and five. We fought to the very end against a good ACC team. Overall, I was happy with the performance."
Siena will have a 13-day break off before returning to the courts versus Lafayette on Friday, February 17 beginning at 11:30 AM at Sportime Schenectady.
