Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Saints Win Overtime Thriller at Dartmouth

Gilhooley nets game-winner from Dobrzynski

In a game that tested both teams' resiliency, Siena Women's Lacrosse emerged victorious 14-13 in overtime at Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon on a game-winning goal off the stick of junior attack Rebecca Gilhooley

Setting up the play was sophomore Grace Dobrzynski, who came around the back end of the net to find a cutting Gilhooley for the clincher.

It has been a breakout campaign for the junior from Syracuse, NY, who entered the season with three career goals. Gilhooley's winner now gives her 16 goals for the season and she ranks second on the team in the category. She has totaled at least four points in three of the previous five games.

In a seesaw affair that featured five ties and four lead changes, Siena (5-4) pushed ahead with five consecutive goals scored in the final 8:37 of the third quarter to take an 11-8 advantage heading into the final frame. The run included goals from Amanda Nieman, Kelly Logue, two from Mary Soures, and another from Dobrzynski.

The Big Green (2-3) forced overtime by outscoring Siena 5-2 in the fourth quarter behind a pair of goals from Katina Christenson and Boo Dewitt's fourth goal of the game.

Dobrzynski led the team with six points (three goals and three assists), Soures had a hat trick of her own, while Logue finished with two goals and three assists and Nieman added a season-high two goals as well.

In the cage, Saints' goalkeeper Sabrina Krasner (5-4) kept busy with nine saves with 61 plus minutes of action.

Saints were outshot 30-26 including 22-18 for shots on target.  However, Siena made their shots count by making good on 14 of 26 shots (.538).  Their season average sits at .421.

Siena will open their MAAC schedule on Saturday, March 25 with a visit to New Rochelle, NY to take on Iona (6-2). Draw time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The teams last played in a barnburner last March 26 in Loudonville, with the Saints holding off the Gaels 21-20.  Siena has won the prior three meetings.
