LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Lacrosse will look to continue its recent successful run going when it entertains Marist in its home MAAC opener on Wednesday at 3:02 p.m. from Hickey Field on ESPN+.
The Saints (6-4 overall, 1-0 MAAC) have rebounded well in their last few games, rallying back from a two-goal halftime deficit to beat MAAC rival Iona this past Saturday after topping Ivy League member Dartmouth on the road for a thrilling overtime win on the previous Saturday.
Siena also gave #13 Army a fight to the end, losing a competitive battle.
While fifth-year midfielder
Mary Soures reached an individual milestone against Iona by becoming the second player in program history to reach the 200-point club, it's largely been a balanced team attack for the Saints.
Nicole McNeely, who played from 2018 through 2022, holds the current record with 227 points scored in five seasons.
Siena features six players who have totaled at least 15 points.
Kelly Logue leads the team with 31 points followed by Soures with 29 points,
Grace Dobrzynski (also 29 points),
Rebecca Gilhooley (22 points),
Katy Wangsness (20 points) and
Jordan Bentley (15 points).
The Red Foxes (2-7, 0-1 MAAC) pose their own offensive challenges to opposing squads as Marist features two players who rank in the top five in goals scored in the MAAC.
Senior attacks Kelly Trotta and Kerri Gutenberger each have scored 28 goals. Trotta leads the conference in points scored with 40.
However, Marist has stumbled of late, losing five consecutive games including last Saturday's 16-7 MAAC loss at Quinnipiac.
The Saints' defense is coming off its' strongest second half performances of the season. Senior goalkeeper
Sabrina Krasner (eight saves) and the rest of the Siena defense allowed no goals in the remaining 19 plus minutes last time out at Iona.
Soures, Wangsness, Logue and Bentley all scored in the fourth quarter to seal it.
Junior goalkeeper Miranda Lopes ranks third in the MAAC in saves per game with 9.90.
Marist has allowed the most goals in the MAAC with 170.
Marist leads the all-time series against the Saints 17-10. But, Siena has the recent strong track record, defeating the Red Foxes 15-11 in their last meeting on March 30, 2022 and have won their last four meetings against them.
