Siena Baseball belted three home runs to fuel a season-high in scoring, but Fairleigh Dickinson rallied with six unanswered runs during a decisive seventh inning to prevail 12-10 in Teaneck, New Jersey.
Siena (2-22, 0-3) set season-highs in runs scored (10), hits (10), RBI (10), doubles (four), home runs (three). and walks (10) in an offensive awakening.
Kobe Stenson,
Danny Barbero, and
Aiden Stewart all homered for the Saints, with Stewart securing the squad's first grand slam of the season to put Siena ahead 7-6 in the fourth. The Saints scratched across three insurance runs while sending all nine men to the plate as part of a productive sixth inning, which extended the string to seven unanswered to give Siena a 10-6 advantage.
But Fairleigh Dickinson (13-9-1, 5-4) struck last in the back-and-forth barnburner to take the victory. The Knights also batted around in the seventh, with five hits in the frame punctuated by the go-ahead two-run double by TJ Werner. FDU pounded out 15 hits, while also working 10 free passes of their own on the afternoon.
Stewart led the way for the Saints with three hits and a pair of runs scored while fellow freshman
Danny Barbero, as well as
Vincent DiNicola, added multi-hit performances.
Hunter D'Amato had three hits and knocked in four runs to lead the Knights, while Anthony Chiapetta tallied a game-high four hits.
Siena has the MAAC bye this weekend, and will head back down south for a three-game non-conference series at Wofford. The Saints return to action Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
