Wofford Takes Twin Bill From Saints

Terriers Prevail in Pitchers Duel, Blowout

Wofford prevailed 2-1 in a pitchers duel in the opener, and slugged their way to a 17-5 victory in seven innings in the nightcap, to sweep the series-opening doubleheader from Siena Baseball in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Game One: Wofford 2, Siena 1
David Wiley's two-out RBI single in the fourth inning proved to be the difference as Wofford (20-6) edged Siena (2-24) in the series-opening pitching duel. Four pitchers – two apiece from each squad – combined to strike out 16 without issuing a walk.

Freshman Aiden Stewart led the way offensively with a pair of hits including the game-tying home run in the third for the Saints. Siena tallied eight hits, but six were singles, as the Saints were unable to push across any further runs.

Arlo Marynczak and Billy Rozakis worked four innings apiece, tag-teaming a strong pitching effort for Siena. The duo scattered seven hits, and Rozakis retired the final eight batters he faced.

Matthew Marchal went the first five innings to secure the win for the Terriers, while Lucas Mahlstedt earned a four-inning save.

Game Two: Wofford 17, Siena 5 (7)
Wofford exploded for an eight-run second and scored in five of their six innings at bat to cruise to the doubleheader sweep. Four separate Terriers scored three runs apiece, including Trey Yunger who led the offensive onslaught with three hits and a pair of RBI.

Siena did score in four consecutive innings, albeit scored just once in three of those frames. The Saints tied a season-high with three homers, as Gavin Thorburn, Vincent DiNicola, and Vincenzo Castronovo all went deep.

Siena concludes its program record 27-game season-opening road trip spanning seven different states over 44 days when they wrap up the series with Wofford Sunday at 1 p.m.
