Baseball Falls in Series Finale at Miami (Ohio)

Saints Fall Short in Bid to Secure First Series Sweep

Miami (Ohio) scored eight runs over the first four innings to take the series finale from Siena Baseball 10-3 in Oxford, Ohio, as the Saints fell short in their bid to sweep their first three-game non-conference series since 2011.

Miami (2-9) hit three home runs and worked 10 walks to prevail on Sunday afternoon. Parker Lester delivered a bases-clearing three-run double in the first inning and Evan Appelwick added a two-run homer in the second to send the Redhawks on their way. Ryland Zaborowski and Cooper Weiss added two-run homers of their own in the fourth and eighth innings, respectively.

Siena (2-10) scratched across an unearned run in the third and added a pair of runs in the fifth on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Matt Livingston. Vincenzo Castronovo paced the Saints offensively with three hits and a stolen base, while Nick Bergamotto added a pair of singles.

Siena struck out 18 times against four Miami hurlers. Zach Maxey struck out 11 over the first five innings to secure the win.

The Saints make their third separate trip to Florida this season when they return to the Sunshine State to open a three-game weekend series at perennial national power Florida starting Friday night at 6:30 p.m. The Gators were ranked sixth nationally this past week.
