Three Saints Named as Women’s Lacrosse All-MAAC Selections

Soures, Colabufo, Bentley all honored

The Siena Women's Lacrosse program took in a haul of three All-MAAC selections announced by the league office on Friday with two student-athletes being named as All-MAAC First Team selections and another was named as an All-MAAC Second Team selection.

Voted on by the league head coaches, the selections are comprised of two teams with four attackers, three midfielders, four defense, one goalkeeper, one at-large/specialist as well as an All-Rookie Team that comprised of 12 position-less spots.  If there were any ties, both student-athletes were included.

Major awards included Defender of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Midfielder of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

Coaches could not vote for their own players.

The Unanimous All-MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Choice and fifth-year midfielder/attack Mary Soures was named to the First Team on attack and senior defense Jenna Colabufo was named as a First Team Defense selection.

Redshirt sophomore Jordan Bentley was named to the All-MAAC Second Team on attack.

Soures added another accomplished chapter to her highly decorated collegiate career as a Saint, ranking seventh in the MAAC in goals with 42 on a .676 shooting % with 13 ground balls, nine caused turnovers, four draw controls and five assists.

The Rochester, NY native also ranked seventh in the MAAC with 21 goals scored in conference games.

A one-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Week this season, Soures has thrived in big moments by scoring four game-winning goals.

Large scoring outputs are rather common as well as Soures has totaled nine hat tricks.

The Webster Thomas High School product became just the second player in program history to eclipse the 200-career points club on March 25 and is the all-time leader in goals scored with 188.

This marks Soures' second time being selected to the All-MAAC First Team.

Colabufo, who was dubbed as a Preseason First Teamer on defense, lived up to her billing, by often being tasked with covering the top offensive threats in the league.

The Bethlehem, NY native totaled 25 draw controls, 21 ground balls, caused 13 turnovers.

The senior was the key anchor of defensive back line that limited opponents in single digit scoring in eight games this season (at Colgate, Binghamton, New Hampshire, at Iona, Marist, Mount St. Mary's, Canisius, at Manhattan).

The Saints' defensive unit held opponents' goals-against average to 10.50 in conference games.

The Bethlehem High School product was also the central figure in making the transition from defense to offense for Siena by routinely running with the ball for more than half the length of the field to set up the offense.

This was Colabufo's first time being selected to the All-MAAC First Team.  She was chosen as an All-MAAC Second Team selection last season.

Bentley had the team's most productive month of April by averaging 3.8 points per game in seven games and 7.2 draw controls over the last six games of the regular season.

The midfielder, who transferred from Richmond two seasons ago, ranked tied for third in conference goals (22), tied for sixth in points (28) and third in draw controls (36).

The Queensbury, NY native was a two-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on April 10 and 17 and she surpassed 100 career draw controls on April 12.

Overall, the Queensbury High School product tallied 36 goals on a .733 shot on goal %, 64 draw controls (ranks fourth in the MAAC), six assists, 11 free position goals and two game-winning goals.

This marks the first All-MAAC Second Team Selection for Bentley.
