Baseball Victorious in Non-Conference Finale

Saints Rally Past Fairleigh Dickinson 8-6 at Connors Park

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Nick Bergamotto blasted the game-tying grand slam in the fifth, and Bryce Mordecki delivered the go-ahead two-run home run in seventh, as Siena Baseball powered past Northeast Conference contender Fairleigh Dickinson 8-6 to kick off a four-game homestand to open the final week of the season – and wrap up non-conference play – on a high note.

Fairleigh Dickinson (30-19-1, 20-10) pieced together a 4-0 lead while holding Siena (14-38, 7-14) to just one hit midway through the ballgame. But the Saints loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth, and Bergamotto came through clutch with the game-tying blast. Freshmen have now accounted for all three Siena grand slams hit this season, with Danny Barbero and Aiden Stewart tallying the others.

Bergamotto's blast kickstarted the offense for the Saints, who scored all eight of their runs over a three-inning span from the fifth through the seventh. Siena scratched across the go-ahead runs in the sixth and, after the Knights drew even at 6-6 on a pinch-hit two-run homer in the seventh, the Saints went back ahead for good courtesy of Mordecki in the home half of the frame.

The senior's decisive first home run of the spring ran the Siena total to 47 on the season, marking the fourth highest single-season home run total in program history, and most in a season in 13 years since smashing a program-record 63 in 2010.

Mordecki finished with three hits and a pair of runs scored, while Sean Camacho was a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI after replacing Randall Hien following a noteworthy achievement in the field. Hien started at second base and also played first base and right field in the win, and has now played all nine defensive positions this season, including starts at six different spots in the field.

The Saints will look to continue to close out the final week of the season strong, when they welcome Quinnipiac to Connors Park to wrap up 2023 with a three-game series starting Thursday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
