Olivia Lomascolo Named to Capital District Sports Women of the Year List

Siena Cross Country & Track Standout Adds Local Accolade to Impressive Resume

LOUDONVILLE, NY – After capping off one of the most decorated individual careers in Siena Cross Country & Track program history, recently graduated fifth year Olivia Lomascolo continued to receive accolades for her work on the course and in the classroom. Lomascolo was named one of the 2023 Capital District Sports Women of the Year, the organization announced on Monday afternoon.

The first Siena student athlete to win the award, the Ballston Lake, New York native is one of three collegiate athletes and one of 13 total athletes from around the Capital District honored with this year's awards. She will be recognized at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala on Monday, August 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectady. Ticket information is to be announced.

"This is a great and very fitting honor for Olivia after ten years of successful competition in the Capital District from high school through college," Siena Cross Country & Track Head Coach John Kenworthy said. "I couldn't be prouder of her for her career at Siena, and I'm so happy to see her being honored in our community as well."

A 2023 graduate of Siena's Dual Degree Nursing program, Lomascolo took home three MAAC individual championships during the 2022-23 season, including winning the 2022 MAAC Women's Cross Country individual title, the 2023 MAAC Indoor Track Women's 3k title, and the 2023 MAAC Outdoor Track Women's 5k title. She was named the 2022 MAAC Women's Cross Country Outstanding Runner of the Meet, and was also part of Siena's distance medley relay team that won the 2023 MAAC Indoor Track title.

Lomascolo departed the program with six school records, and was named the 2022-23 Siena Female Student Athlete of the Year. She took home All-ECAC and NCAA Northeast Regional All-East finishes during cross country season, and was a five-time MAAC Runner of the Week. She also became the first female runner in program history to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track East First Round, competing in the 10,000 last month in Florida.

Her work in the classroom paralleled that on the field of play, as she is a two-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection, and was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, MAAC Academic Honor Roll, and the Siena Dean's List throughout her collegiate career.

Created in 2019 and currently honoring its fourth class, the Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization (CDSWOY) honors the best and brightest female student athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State. The student-athletes are recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics, and community service.
