Griffin named Cross Country & Track Assistant Coach

Coach DeBole welcomes former ast coach of UT at Chattanooga to Loudonville

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena University cross country and track head coach Elizabeth DeBole has appointed Tyler Griffin as assistant coach of the Saints cross country and track teams.

The former assistant coach of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga program comes to Loudonville after serving a six-year stint with the Mocs.

"He brings more than a decade of experience and has a proven track record of recruiting and developing great talent. Tyler is a D3 NCAA Champion in the mile and brings firsthand knowledge of what it takes to win. We are looking forward to his expertise and continuing to develop this program into a MAAC powerhouse."

From his time at UT-Chattanooga, Griffin served on a coaching staff that produced a total of 21 Top-10 school performances with seven named to the SOCON Cross Country All-Freshmen Team, five student athletes named to the Indoor Track SOCON All-Freshmen team and two others named to the Outdoor Track SOCON All-Freshmen team.

In all, the Mocs also had two individual All-SOCON performers, an individual SOCON champion in outdoor track, two more individual All-SOCON performers for indoor track and one first team selection on the SOCON cross country team. 

"I'm very excited to work with the cross country and track and field teams here at Siena University," Griffin said.

"I want to thank Coach DeBole and the administration for giving me the opportunity to work with the program. I'm looking forward to continuing Siena's strong tradition in cross country and track and field! Go Saints!"

Previously, Griffin also served as a three-year assistant coach with Kent State and oversaw a total of 16 Top-10 program performances. In total, the Golden Flashes had seven individual regional qualifiers for cross country with one individual All-MAC performer, two All-MAC performers for the women's 800-meter and men's one-mile events during the indoor season and two additional All-MAC performers for the women's 800-meter and men's 1,500-meter for the outdoor season. 

Prior to that position, Griffin served as an assistant for Mount Union, who won the 2014 NCAA DIII Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship and were four-time Ohio Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship from 2013 through 2016. In addition, the cross-country teams were three-time OAC Men's Champions from 2012 through 2014 and the OAC Women's Champions in 2014. 

As an athlete, Griffin was the 2009 Outdoor National Champion in the 1,500-meter event while at Mount Union. Additionally, he won nine individual OAC Championships and was a 24-time recipient of All-OAC honors.

He was a three-time individual cross country national qualifier from 2008 through 2010 and three-time Academic All-American.
