Graduate student
Jackson Cayward has shown that he had this type of performance in him.
On this past Saturday, returning back to the Jasper Fall Cross Country Invitational where he once had a pair of Top-3 finish two seasons ago on the same course, Cayward turned back the clock again—and then some—with a sterling time of 24:33.2 to finish first at the event at Twin Ponds on the Farm in Montgomery.Â
The Tolland, CT native beat out all others in a competitive field of 201 runners.Â
The time was two-tenths of a second faster than his time on the same course during the 2023 MAAC Cross Country Championships when he placed second overall that day.Â
The performance helped vault Siena up to a second place team finish with 44 points, beating out the likes of top competitors such as Fordham (107), Seton Hall (134), Rider (158), Marist (183), Fairfield (227), Quinnipiac (232), NYU (232), UAlbany (251), Sacred Heart (292), Marywood (303), Manhattan (409), Saint Peter's (431), SUNY Delhi (441), and Manhattanville (506).
Cayward and the Saints will now set their sights on the 51
st annual Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, PA on Friday, Oct. 3 beginning at 9:30 a.m. for the men's open race and 10:15 a.m. for the women's open race.Â
The college men's gold race is scheduled for 11 a.m. while the college women's gold race is set for 11:45 a.m.Â
The college men's brown race is slated for 2 p.m. while the college women's brown race is set for 2:45 p.m.
